Denmark PM wants PM Modi to 'influence' Russia to end Ukraine war; veiled message on China

On Day 2 of his Europe trip, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Copenhagen in Denmark. As a special gesture, the Danish Prime Minister personally received Modi at the airport.

Subsequently, the two world leaders reached the Danish PM's official residence. PM Modi was given a private tour of the residence by PM Mette Frederiksen.

It's an 18-century structure called Marienborg. The mansion is situated on a hilltop and surrounded by meadows, woods, and lakes. The two were seen engaged in conversation while walking in a meadow at the Danish PM's residence.

Subsequently, the two leaders held delegation-level talks. India's Foreign minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present. They discussed the Russia-Ukraine war, among other issues.

Commenting on the talks, PM Modi later said, "Today, we discussed India-EU ties, Indo-Pacific, Ukraine, and other regional and global issues. We stressed on ensuring an open, free, inclusive, and rules-based order in Indo-Pacific. We appealed for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, and discussions and diplomacy for resolution of the issue."

Modi and Frederiksen also participated in a business forum meeting where the Indian prime minister pushed for investments in the country. Subsequently, PM Modi interacted with members of the Indian diaspora.
