Amit Shah criticizes Congress on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah has paid tribute to the victims who perished during the 1947 Partition, as he criticized the Congress party for its role in dividing India and wounding the pride of Mother India.

During the observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Shah emphasized the significance of the day as an opportunity to reflect on the suffering endured by those affected by the Partition of the nation.

"On this day, the Congress party divided the nation, wounding the pride of Maa Bharati. The Partition triggered violence, exploitation, and atrocities, resulting in the displacement of millions," Shah conveyed in a post on X in Hindi. The country will never forget this history and the pain of the Partition," he stated.

The Modi government has been marking August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' since 2021, commemorating those who lost their lives during the country's Partition.

When announcing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi indicated that the day would serve as a remembrance of the struggles and sacrifices of the populace, emphasizing that the pain of the Partition is unforgettable.

Modi further noted that millions were displaced and many lives were lost due to the senseless hatred and violence that accompanied the Partition.

The Partition resulted in the division of British India into two independent states: India and Pakistan.

India is set to celebrate its Independence Day on Friday.
