Delhi moves SC over water crisis, seeks more supply from Haryana, UP and Himachal

The Delhi government has approached the Supreme Court over the prevailing water crisis in the national capital.

In its plea filed on Friday, the government has asked the top court to direct the Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh governments to provide additional water for a month.

The petition states that "Delhi's need for water has increased in the scorching heat. It is everyone's responsibility to fulfill the needs of the country's capital”.

The plea comes hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the BJP governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to help fulfill Delhi's water needs and not to indulge in politics.

Earlier, Delhi's water minister Atishi accused the Haryana government of withholding Delhi's share of water. Meanwhile, the BJP held a demonstration march from Shahidi Park to the Delhi secretariat over the water crisis in the national capital.

The national capital has been facing a severe water shortage and Water Minister Atishi has accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of water.
