Delhi's Massive Mock Security Drills
In a significant move, Delhi authorities will conduct mock security drills across 55 sites. This strategic exercise is aimed at assessing the preparedness of the city's security forces in the face of potential threats, particularly after 'Operation Sindoor,' a direct military response by the Indian armed forces to the Pahalgam terror attack. This attack had tragically claimed 26 civilian lives, prompting India's decisive missile strikes against terror bases in Pakistan and PoK. The scheduled drills will simulate scenarios like air raids and search and rescue operations, involving 2,000 civil defence volunteers and 1,200 ‘Aapda Mitras’. Key locations such as Connaught Place and Khan Market will witness heightened security with police activating sirens across Delhi's 15 districts. The Ministry of Home Affairs is encouraging all states to implement similar exercises in response to the evolving security landscape. In preparation, Delhi Police have heightened security with added barricades at crucial sites including the vicinity of Parliament. These comprehensive exercises are part of an overarching effort to bolster Delhi's security infrastructure against new and complex threats.

Security Preparedness to be Tested in Delhi with Mock Drills Scheduled at 55 Sites
Authorities in Delhi are set to conduct extensive mock security drills across 55 locations, including prominent areas such as Connaught Place, Khan Market, and Chandni Chowk, on Wednesday. These exercises aim to assess the readiness of security agencies.
The drills come in the wake of 'Operation Sindoor,' a robust military response by the Indian armed forces in the early hours of Wednesday, following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
In retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians two weeks ago, Indian forces launched missile strikes targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Key targets included the notorious Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke. These strategic strikes were carried out under the banner of 'Operation Sindoor.'
Officials have confirmed that preparations are underway to ensure the mock drills proceed smoothly.
"The drills are scheduled for 4 pm and will take place at 55 sites, with five locations in each revenue district. We've conducted meetings with all relevant stakeholders to coordinate these exercises," stated an official.
The drills are designed to simulate a variety of hostile scenarios, such as air raids, multiple fire emergencies, and search and rescue operations. As part of the exercises, police teams will activate sirens across the city's 15 police districts.
In light of "new and complex threats" emerging amidst rising tensions with Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs has urged all states to undertake similar mock drills.
Ahead of the scheduled drills, Delhi Police heightened security on Tuesday, implementing additional barricades at critical sites like Connaught Place and the vicinity of Parliament.
The operation will involve around 2,000 civil defence volunteers and 1,200 'Aapda Mitras,' individuals specially trained in disaster response, to ensure comprehensive testing of the capital's security measures.
