Protests at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan Over SSC Exam Mismanagement

New Delhi, Aug 25 (PTI) Political parties criticized the Delhi Police on Monday for their alleged use of force against aspirants of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) who were protesting at Ramlila Maidan, decrying "mismanagement" in recruitment examinations. Despite these accusations, the police have denied claims of baton charging the demonstrators. 

The protest, which included SSC students and trainers, took place at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, with calls for more efficient examination conduct. Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia shared a video on X, which showed police personnel pushing a protester and dragging another. 

"At Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, the BJP's 'Lathi-Leela'. Brutal baton charge on SSC students and teachers, dragged them away forcefully. When it comes to providing jobs, the Modi government ranks last, but when it comes to lathi-charging youth, it is number one," he said.

The Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) echoed these allegations in a late-night post on X. "For demanding a fair SSC recruitment, today the Modi government had students thrashed with batons. Those who could not remove unemployment are now busy suppressing the voice of the youth," it said, pledging support to the protesters.

According to a senior Delhi Police officer, around 1,500 protestors gathered at Ramlila Maidan, but 100 refused to leave the site after the permitted time despite repeated requests and notifications. The officer stated, "Out of those who were not leaving, 44 protestors were detained. There was no laathi-charge."

The SSC exam has faced numerous complaints, including abrupt cancellations, server crashes, unresponsive systems, and exam centers located as far as 500 km from candidates' homes.
