The Congress and the other constituents of the bloc rallied behind Moitra who was expelled for allegdly indulging in &ldquo;unethical conduct&rdquo; and committing &ldquo;serious misdemeanours&rdquo;.&nbsp;
As the TMC leader stood on the steps of the Parliament and addressed the media, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and other Opposition MPs stood behind her and listened to her in rapt attention.
From Bengal, her party boss Mamata Banerjee congratulated the INDIA bloc, saying they have fought unitedly. Pertinently, Mamata had Banerjee recently said that she was not apprised about opposition alliance INDIA's meeting in Delhi, scheduled for December 6.&nbsp;

She was replying to a question by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
In her written reply in Lok Sabha, Irani said, "At present, there is no proposal under consideration of the Government to make provision for paid menstrual leave mandatory for all workplaces".
"Menstruation is a physiological phenomenon among women and only a small proportion of women/ girls suffer from severe dysmenorrhea or similar complaints; and most of these cases are manageable by medication," Irani said in her reply.
The minister added that various types of leave are available to a female government employee under the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972 in the form of earned leave, half-pay leave, extraordinary leave, child care leave, commuted leave, maternity leave, leave on medical certificate, leave not due, etc.&nbsp;

'Don't upload questions myself': Giridhari Yadav, who is part of Moitra ethics panel, slams BJP

Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav on Friday said he does not upload questions on the Lok Sabha's website himself as he does not know how to operate a computer, as the Lower House decided to expel Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Mahua Moitra over the allegation that she shared her log-in credentials with outsiders and took a bribe for asking questions.
Yadav, who is a member of the Lok Sabha's ethics panel and was among the opposition MPs who staged a walkout from the committee meeting alleging that Moitra was asked personal and irrelevant questions, took a jibe at the ruling dispensation and questioned why BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was called for questioning while businessman Darshan Hiranandani was not.
He said this while participating in a debate on the report of the ethics committee in the Lok Sabha. The report was adopted and the House voted for expelling Moitra after the opposition members walked out.
"I do not upload my questions myself.... My PS (personal secretary) does it. I do not know how to operate a computer ... so my staff does that for me. I do not even remember my own password," the JD(U) leader said.
"This time I did not give any questions out of fear.... We are being intimidated," he added.
Speaker Om Birla objected to Yadav's comments.
"I request all members to prepare their own questions. This is against the norms. I can take action against members who do not prepare their own questions," Birla said.
Yadav said ethics panel chairperson Vinod Sonkar had said Hiranandani, who made the allegation through an affidavit that he paid a bribe to Moitra, would be called for examination but was not called eventually.
"It is the misfortune of this House that honourable Nishikantji was called for cross (examination), but Darshan Hiranandani was not called. If an affidavit can be trusted, why mistrust Nishikantji? "The ethics panel chairman had said Hiranandani would be called.... We call MPs but do not call capitalists who make allegations," he said.
The Lok Sabha expelled Moitra on Friday after holding her guilty of sharing her website log-in credentials with others and accepting gifts from a businessman to extend favours.
After a heated debate during which Moitra was not allowed to speak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion to expel the TMC leader for "unethical conduct", which was adopted by a voice vote.
The opposition members walked out of the House as the speaker started the voting process on the motion moved by Joshi.
The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha had recommended Moitra's expulsion from the House over the "cash-for-query" allegation.

While speaking to ANI, Karti Chidambaram said,&nbsp; "The committee concluded that she is criminal, but then recommended an intense legal institutional inquiry by the Government of India in a time-bound manner. After finding somebody criminal, why are you asking for an inquiry? This recommendation itself is completely contradictory. The person who drafted it has to read it again."
He even compared her expulsion to a Bangladesh-Sri Lanka match and said, "there was a match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Angelo Matthews was timed out because Shaqib ul Hassan appealed against it according to the law. It was correct, but it was against the spirit of cricket."
He further said, "Whatever happened, they might act as if it's under the law under procedure.But what they did was unethical. Please understand one thing in India, people don't mind if you defeat your opponent, but they don't like it when you humiliate your opponent."

Reacting to TMC MP Mahua Moitra's expulsion from Lok Sabha, Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali held a one-man protest outside Parliament to demand justice for his ex-colleague.
Ali said, "Commitee also mentioned about me in one of the recommendations because I am standing there for the justice of Mahua Moitra."
He further said that everyone saw that Ramesh Bidhuri crossed the line and what he did but the Parliamentary Committee is not ashamed of that. Danish Ali also said that the boundaries of Parliament were crossed on September 21 when Ramesh Bidhuri hurled abuses at him.&nbsp;
The opposition leader also said, "On one side, the whole world saw how Ramesh Bidhuri (a BJP Lok Sabha MP) acted... was there no sense of honour or decorum in Parliament then? Why now? What is this?"
He also said, 'today Gandhi and Ambedkar's soul must be crying.'
The committee's report was presented before the Lok Sabha on Friday morning and after a brief but frantic hour of discussion in the afternoon, Mahua Moitra was expelled via a voice vote.

Soon after the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi was asked about Mahua Moitra not being allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha during the debate despite the Trinamool's request to make her the speaker on behalf of the party during the debate.
To this, Pralhad Joshi talked about the cash-for-query row against Mahua Moitra and said, "Mahua accepted the allegation and she said that she got certain brands' scarf, lipstick, she did not deny all this."
Pralhad Joshi further said that in the Parliament, she asked around 60-65 questions but never asked about her constituency. Joshi further said, "She asked questions for money and it has been proved, she accepted it, what other proof do you want? This is the biggest proof."
He concluded by saying that several TMC MPs are happy with her expulsion.&nbsp;

Mamata Banerjee said: "Moitra is a victim of circumstances and TMC will fight along with the INDIA alliance for justice." She further said that "it is a sad day for India and that Mahua should fight it boldly and TMC will also fight it boldly."&nbsp;
The West Bengal chief minister added, "Today, I am sad to see the attitude of the BJP... How they betray the democracy. They did not allow Mahua to explain her stand. Full injustice has been done." 
Moitra was expelled on Friday from the Lok Sabha after the House adopted the report of its Ethics Committee that held her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification from a businessman to further his interest.
After a heated debate over the panel report during which Moitra was not allowed to speak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion to expel the Trinamool member for "unethical conduct", which was adopted by a voice vote.
Reacting sharply to her expulsion, Moitra equated the action with hanging by a "kangaroo court" and alleged a parliamentary panel was being weaponised by the government to force the opposition into submission.
Mamata concluded saying that the expulsion was "unacceptable and unjustified".

Singh was arrested by the probe agency last week in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Of the total 44 locations being raided by the NIA since this morning, the agency sleuths have searched 1 place in Karnataka, 2 in Pune, 31 in Thane Rural, 9 in Thane city and 1 in Bhayandar, the media agency said.

Bihar: youth arrested for consuming alcohol found dead in lock-up, family allege custodial torture

Aman was arrested by the officials of the Bihar Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department on Thursday on charges of consuming liquor and violating the state's prohibition laws. The sale and consumption of alcohol is banned in Bihar since April 2016.

A 22-year-old man, who was arrested for consuming liquor in dry Bihar, was found dead inside the lockup of a police station in Munger district, an official said on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Aman of Bageshwari area, was found hanging from the ventilator of the toilet attached to the lockup of the prohibition department police station at 2 am, he said.
Aman's family alleged that he was tortured in the lockup, following which he died. A police case was also registered, and an investigation started.
Aman was arrested by the officials of the Bihar Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department on Thursday on charges of consuming liquor and violating the state's prohibition laws.
The sale and consumption of alcohol is banned in Bihar since April 2016.
Talking to reporters, Suman Kumar, Inspector (Excise and Prohibition department), said, "Aman was found hanging in the toilet attached to the lockup at 2 am on Friday. He was immediately taken to the district hospital, where he was declared dead." "After medical examinations, he was kept in the department's lockup along with four other persons. The matter is being investigated," he added.
Aman's family alleged that custodial torture led to his death.
His father Upendra Mandal lodged a police complaint against "unknown officials" of the Prohibition Department.
"A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased's family. The matter is being investigated," said Rajesh Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Munger Sadar.

The Income Tax Department has been conducting raids on Sahu's premises on charges of tax evasion in the neighbouring states since December 6, 2023.
&nbsp;the Income Tax department on Friday found 156 bags of cash during search for the third consecutive day at Sudapada in Bolangir district, also linked to the distillery group, officials said.
From the bags, Rs 25 crore were counted till Friday afternoon, taking the total amount recovered so far to Rs 225 crore.
"Of the 156 bags, only 7/8 were counted and the amount found was Rs 25 crore," an official said.
The raids were carried out at Sambalpur, Bolangir, Titilagarh, Boudh, Sundargarh, Rourkela and Bhubaneswar.
Around Rs 200 crore in cash was seized on Thursday during raids at the Bolangir office of Baldeo Sahu &amp; Group of Companies, one of the biggest country-liquor manufacturers in western Odisha.
The raids were conducted at some houses, offices, and distillery at Sargipali in Sundargarh city on Wednesday.
The company is yet to provide any reaction to the raids.

The NHRC has issued notices to the Manipur government and the state's police chief over reports that at least 13 people were killed in a gunfight in Leithao village in the Tengnoupal district, officials said on Friday.
The incident, as reported, indicates a "lapse" on the part of the law enforcing agencies and the forces deployed to ensure peace and law and order in the state, the rights panel said in a statement.
The National Human Rights Commission observed that the reported loss of 13 lives in an area, which remained calm since the tension erupted in the state of Manipur in May this year, is "alarming and disturbing".
The rights panel has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that "at least 13 people were killed in a gun fight in Leithao village near Saibol in the Tengnoupal district, Manipur. Reportedly, the incident happened on December 4," it said.
The commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, amount to a serious issue of human rights violations and is a matter of concern.
Accordingly, it has issued notices to the state's chief secretary and the director general of police, seeking a detailed report within two weeks, the statement said.
It should include the status of the FIR registered by the police and steps taken by the state government to ensure that such incidents of violence do not take place anywhere in the state, the rights panel said.
"The state of Manipur and its people have already suffered a lot. It is firmly reiterated that it is the duty of the state to protect the life and properties of its citizens both private and public and to promote fraternity and spirit of brotherliness amongst the communities," it said.
The NHRC since May 2023 has received several complaints from individuals, NGOs and activists alleging violation of human rights during the incidents of violence in Manipur, the statement said.
