Tragic Murder in Delhi: Woman and Son Killed by Domestic Help

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) - In a tragic incident in the Lajpat Nagar area of southeast Delhi, a woman and her teenage son were allegedly murdered by their domestic help, police officials reported on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Mukesh (24), was apprehended by Uttar Pradesh Police while attempting to escape on a train. The incident came to light after a PCR call was made by Kuldeep Sewani, a resident of Lajpat Nagar I, at 9:43 pm on Wednesday. Kuldeep stated that his wife, Ruchika (42), and their 14-year-old son were unresponsive to calls and noted the presence of bloodstains on the staircase of their residence.

"A PCR van and team were swiftly dispatched to the location," explained Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari in a statement. "The caller, Kuldeep, shared details about the bloodstains and the unresponsive condition of his family. The house gate was forcibly opened." The bodies of Ruchika and her son were discovered inside. Ruchika's body was located in the bedroom, while her son's was found in the bathroom.

Kuldeep and his wife operated a garment shop in the Lajpat Nagar market, and their son was a class 10 student, as per the statement. The preliminary investigation revealed that the family's domestic helper Mukesh, hailing from Hajipur in Bihar, had been missing post-incident. He also assisted with the family's garment business and served as a driver.

Mukesh was subsequently arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction while he was fleeing by train, Deputy Commissioner Tiwari stated. Police are yet to determine the motive behind the double murder, and further investigations continue.
