Fatal Fire Tragedy in Kolkata's Kestopur Area

Kolkata, Jun 24 (PTI) A devastating fire claimed the life of a man on Tuesday when it erupted on the ground floor of a residential building in the Kestopur area, located on the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, according to the police.

Local residents reported that the fire was first noticed at approximately 3:30 am, as flames rapidly consumed the ground floor of the residence within the jurisdiction of the Baguihati Police Station, a senior officer informed.

"A charred body of a middle-aged person was recovered from there," stated a fire brigade official. The deceased has been identified as Sabyasachi Chakraborty.

Upon receiving information about the fire at around 4:05 am, fire tenders were quickly deployed. The blaze was eventually brought under control by 7:30 am," he added.

The officer further mentioned that Chakraborty, who was trapped inside the building, was found deceased on the ground floor. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation is currently underway, he added.
