Cyclone Jawad Live: Alert in Andhra and Odisha, cyclonic storm is coming

Parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are bracing for Cyclone Jawad.

Weather department has said that the depression over southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Friday, and is likely to form a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours.

The IMD said the weather system was moving at a speed of 32 kmph and lay 580 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 670 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha, and 760 km south-southeast of Paradip at 5.30 am on Friday.

The storm, once developed, will be called Jawad (pronounced Jowad), as named by Saudi Arabia. After Yaas in May and Gulab in September, this will be the third cyclone headed towards the east coast this year.

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over south coastal Odisha. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh. An orange alert has been issued in the two states today.
