Controversy Erupts Over Derogatory Remarks at Rahul Gandhi's Bihar Yatra

Patna, Aug 29 (PTI) — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed strong disapproval over the alleged derogatory remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Rahul Gandhi's 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' held in the state. The Chief Minister described the use of offensive language against PM Modi and his late mother at platforms organized by Congress and RJD during the yatra in Darbhanga as wholly inappropriate, which he condemned in a post on social media platform X on Friday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded Thursday, stating that the Congress-led INDIA bloc will face consequences from the electorate in the approaching assembly elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the incident, labeling it as a "blot" on the nation’s democratic values.

The BJP leadership, including Shah, party president J P Nadda, and spokesperson Sambit Patra took the opportunity to reprimand Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, following the circulation of a purported video. The video allegedly shows an unidentified individual using a Hindi slur against Modi from a dais set up during the yatra in Darbhanga.

This incident occurred prior to Gandhi, along with Congress general secretary Priyanka Vadra and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, departing for Muzaffarpur on motorcycles on Wednesday. It is important to note that PTI has not independently verified the authenticity of the circulated video.

In response to the events, a Bihar BJP delegation filed a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station in Patna on Thursday. Protests also erupted in Darbhanga and Patna, with the state women's commission calling for "suo motu" action against those responsible for the offensive language.

BJP protestors, led by local MP Gopaljee Thakur, expressed their outrage by burning effigies of Gandhi and Yadav in Darbhanga. A Congress representative in Darbhanga, Mohd Naushad, acknowledged that the viral video was shot at a stage he had set up outside the northern Bihar town.

Naushad offered an apology, explaining the expletives were hurled in his absence and admitting he had not watched the video but was willing to apologize if any misconduct occurred. This incident has led Gopaljee Thakur to submit a memorandum to District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar, advocating for the arrest of Naushad and his associates.
