Road rage case: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu surrenders

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has surrendered in Patiala after the Supreme Court gave him a prison sentence of one year in 1988 road rage case.

The former cricketer was involved in a brawl in December 1988 during which he beat up a 65-year-old man who was declared brought when he was taken to the hospital.

The Supreme Court had on Thursday sentenced Sidhu to one-year rigorous imprisonment in the road-rage case, saying any undue sympathy in imposing an inadequate sentence would do more harm to the justice system and undermine the public confidence in the efficacy of law.

In 2018, the apex court had held him guilty of voluntarily causing hurt but not imposed any prison term. He had been fined ₹1000
