CWC meet: Cong interim-chief Sonia Gandhi stamps her authority, says she is 'full time' boss

Accepting that all Congress members want revival, the grand old party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday reminded the opposition party’s top command to maintain unity, self-control and discipline.

Sonia Gandhi in her opening address to the Congress Working Committee or CWC said keeping the party’s interests paramount, a response to The Group of Congress leaders who have raised an open rebellion over the demand to overhaul the over 135-year-old political outfit, formed to oust the British colonial empire.

The Congress quoted her saying “I am a full time, hands-on President. Talk to me frankly, not through the media”.

The party is seeking to finalise dates for the election of a full-term president.

However, The Indian Express in a report said that most of the over 50 participants would not press much for the revival at the CWC as there are impending five assembly elections.

The report said the G23 who have been seeking sweeping changes in the party structure, argued that the party should not go in for polls now and should focus on the forthcoming Assembly elections in five states.

Sonia Gandhi, who is also the chief of the opposition alliance United Progressive Alliance, in a statement, said many young leaders of the Congress have taken a leadership role within the party for the last two years.
