Commuters in Thane don't want AC trains, here's why

Commuters on Monday blocked route of an empty AC local train near Kalwa station in Thane city demanding resumption of non-AC train services in morning peak hours.

A video of the same has gone viral with hundreds of passengers seen halting the path of an empty AC train for 20 minutes.

The protest, however, did not affect the train services on the main line of the Central Railway (CR), as it took place at the car shed in Kalwa, officials said.

"An empty rake of AC local going out from the car shed was detained by people for about 20 minutes - from 8.10 am to 8.30 am," Shivaji Sutar, Central Railway CPRO said.

They added that people want non-AC locals be restored on the route from Kalwa to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT.

The Central Railway on Independence Day announced 10 AC locals replacing the existing non-AC locals on the main line of Kalwa station.

This left the commuters unhappy who reportedly expressed concerns over the proposed timings of these 10 AC trains.

Media reports suggest that many commuters board the non-AC local trains at the car shed in Kalwa in the morning rush hour, therefore overcrowding the trains.
