Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Nov 3 (PTI) — A distressing incident occurred near Coimbatore International Airport, where a college student was sexually assaulted by three men, according to police reports released on Monday. The suspects, who remain unidentified, attacked the 19-year-old student's male companion, forcing him to flee, before committing the assault on the night of November 2,

The crime's proximity to a high-security area has caused widespread shock and concern throughout the city. Authorities have responded by forming seven special teams tasked with locating and apprehending the perpetrators,

Both the victim and her friend have been hospitalized due to the incident. Reacting to the news, BJP leader K. Annamalai expressed outrage, blaming the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu for an apparent increase in such incidents under their governance.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', Annamalai accused the DMK of failing to prevent sexual crimes and criticized the alleged pattern of shielding offenders. "From DMK ministers to police officials, there has been a disturbing pattern of shielding sexual offenders instead of ensuring justice. The DMK government has utterly failed in both preventing sexual crimes and providing safety for women," he alleged.
