Chennai Marks Vinayaka Chaturthi with Devotion and Festivity

Chennai, Aug 27 (PTI) Vinayaka Chaturthi was observed with great religious enthusiasm throughout Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, as devotees flocked to numerous Vinayaka Temples to offer special prayers.

Clay idols of Lord Vinayaka were placed in homes and at various significant locations across the city, where people gathered in large numbers to pray.

In various parts of the state, temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha, including the renowned Sri Karpaga Vinayaka Temple in Pillayarpatti, Sivaganga district, were festively adorned to commemorate the occasion.

Devotees presented 'Kozhukattai,' a sweet treat made of jaggery and coconut, to the deity, who is revered as a remover of obstacles and a giver of knowledge.

The famed Uchipillaiyar Shrine, situated on a hill in Tiruchirappalli, was bustling with activity as devotees gathered at the temple in large numbers from early morning onwards.

In numerous areas of the city, giant and intricately decorated idols of Lord Ganesha were set up by resident associations and Hindu groups.

The police have implemented extensive security measures to prevent any untoward incidents.

Following a week-long celebration, the idols of Lord Ganesha are set to be immersed in the Bay of Bengal.
