The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday lifted its stay order on the Chardham Yatra.

Fully vaccinated people with a Covid negative report will be allowed to go on Chardham Yatra, the High Court said as it lifting the ban on the annual pilgrimage.

There’s also a cap on the number of devotees— only 800 pilgrims will be allowed in Kedarnath, 1200 in Badrinath, 600 in Gangotri and 400 in Yamunotri per day.

Devotees will not be allowed to take bath in any of the springs around the temples.

The Court’s decision comes as a relief to the state government which had appealed against the June 28th stay, arguing that it was a crucial earning period and many families’ livelihood would suffer if the pilgrimage is cancelled.

The Court had stayed the government’s decision to start the Yatra for pilgrims from outside the state in a phased manner after hearing Public Interest Litigations flagging the lack of health care facilities and fear of Covid case rise.
