ISRO chief S Somanath earlier said the propulsion module will ‘debsoost’, a mechanism to ensure a soft landing of the lander. 'If everything fails, if all the sensors fail, nothing works, still Vikram will make a landing', he told PTI

Chandrayaan 3- Vikram lander module successfully executes first deboosting manoeuvre

Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander module successfully carried out a deboosting manoeuvre in the crucial lunar mission on August 18. The second deboosting operation is scheduled for August 20, with the module expected to gradually descend to an altitude of up to 100 km within the lunar orbit. This descent marks the preparation for the subsequent soft landing attempt. On Friday, ISRO released images of the lunar surface, captured by the Lander Imager Camera shortly after the Lander module detached from the Propulsion Module as part of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
