The day is regarded as highly auspicious, with the belief that tasks begun on this day will yield eternal success and prosperity. Adverse weather conditions have altered crop and commodity production trends across the country. Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading cane-crushing and sugar-producing state in India, surpassing Maharashtra for the first time in the ongoing 2024-25 season.&nbsp;
According to cane industry data updated until April 15, Maharashtra, which produced 110.20 lakh metric tons (LMT) of sugar in the 2023-24 season, saw a dramatic decline in 2024-25, producing only 80.70 LMT&mdash;down by more than 26%.
In contrast, UP's sugar production fell by 11.7%, dropping from 103.65 LMT in 2023-24 to 91.50 LMT in 2024-25, a significantly smaller dip compared to other states. Karnataka, another key producer, also saw a sharp decline, with sugar production dropping from 53 LMT in 2023-24 to 42 LMT this season, a decrease of around 21%. On a national level, India&rsquo;s sugar production fell from 319 LMT in 2023-24 to 299 LMT in 2024-25, a drop of about 19%. This decline has been primarily attributed to adverse weather conditions, including droughts and excessive rainfall, which have severely impacted sugarcane yields in major producing states.
UP&rsquo;s success in maintaining its production levels was largely due to its continued operation of sugar mills. While Maharashtra had only one sugar mill running by mid-April, UP operated 22 sugar mills, which accounted for about 60% of the 37 mills operating nationwide. Tamil Nadu, which operates 10 mills, also saw a decrease in sugar production, from 10.75 LMT in 2023-24 to 7 LMT this year.
UP crushed over 937 LMT of sugarcane this season, slightly down from 959 LMT in the previous year. Meanwhile, Maharashtra&rsquo;s cane crushing dropped from 1,064 LMT in 2023-24 to 848 LMT in 2024-25. Similarly, Karnataka experienced a fall in cane crushing, from 527 LMT to 475 LMT.
The reduced sugar output has led to a slowdown in sugar exports. Indian mills have contracted to export 600,000 metric tons of sugar for the 2024-25 marketing year, but experts have noted a decline in export pace, citing rising domestic prices and increased local demand.&nbsp;
The anticipated shortfall in production is also expected to affect global sugar prices, given India&rsquo;s significant role as a major sugar exporter.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges posed by climatic factors, underscoring their impact on agricultural productivity and the broader economy.

A recent survey commissioned by the Union Ministry of Tourism and Culture has revealed that a single pilgrim attending the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh spent an estimated Rs 5,877.63 during the event.&nbsp;
The survey, which analyzed spending patterns, found that 41.11% of expenses were allocated to travel, 16.64% to accommodation, 11.24% to food, 11.08% to religious items, 2.13% to entertainment, 7.42% to shopping, and 10.38% to other miscellaneous expenses.
Given the massive footfall of 66 crore pilgrims at the Maha Kumbh, this translates into an estimated total economic impact of Rs 3.88 lakh crore. Reacting to these findings, Thakur Jaiveer Singh, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, stated: "It is evident that the Maha Kumbh contributed immensely to the state's economy."
The &lsquo;Maha Kumbh Spiritual Survey&ndash;2025&rsquo; was conducted from January 28 to February 26, 2025, across various locations in Prayagraj, including Teliarganj, Jhunsi, Arail, and Parade Ground. The survey interviewed 3,52,388 pilgrims from around the world, with 1,093 respondents coming from international locations such as the USA, UK, Canada, Nepal, Australia, and Fiji. The survey was led by Deloitte, with support from the All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG).
One of the key findings of the survey was that the spiritual trio of Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Varanasi emerged as the top tourist destinations for both domestic and international pilgrims.&nbsp;
"It was interesting to note that among previous visits, 27.32% of respondents last visited Ayodhya, 22.68% visited Sangam in Prayagraj, and 8.81% visited Varanasi. Also, for future visits, 32.57% preferred Sangam, 12.46% Ayodhya, and 7.46% Varanasi. In terms of overall favourite destinations, 22.55% chose Ayodhya, 19.96% chose Sangam, and 12.72% chose Varanasi," the officials revealed.
Additionally, the survey explored the travel preferences of visitors, showing a notable difference between domestic and international tourists. While domestic visitors tended to travel with family, foreign tourists favored solo travel. The findings revealed that 40% of Indian tourists visited with family, 30.88% alone, and 29.13% with friends. Among foreign tourists, 55.26% traveled alone, 24.43% with family, and 20.31% with friends.
Tourism Principal Secretary Mukesh Meshram commented, "The findings would be studied in detail by departmental experts, and the learnings from it would be tweaked in future planning."

My aunt is seventy years old. She returned from a trip to Kashmir about ten days ago. It was her first time visiting the region. Despite her ailing health, she roamed around almost every corner of Kashmir for nearly a month. As she was narrating her stories upon returning home, I observed how happiness and the true essence of serenity lit up her wrinkled face and eyes while she talked about the 'Paradise on Earth' and its people.
In our country, there are many people around us who do not use smartphones. They do not use social media. They are not keen to squander their time watching news channels on television, either. The morning newspapers are still their most trustworthy access to the news. My aunt is one such person. It was on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack. She was trembling while holding the newspaper. I saw her eyes. The eyes, which were previously bright with elation, filled with unendurable sadness. I noticed she was staring intently at a photograph. Her eyes were full of tears. She was mumbling, 'Eto boro sorbonaash keno hoye gelo bol toh?' (Why did such a huge disaster happen?)
There is a very popular saying that we all know: 'A picture speaks a thousand words.' What does a picture or a photograph essentially do? It represents a scene. That scene is interwoven with the thoughts of the viewers. Thoughts weave their way across our minds continuously. A recent study suggests that people generally have over 6,000 thoughts in a day. But what if, stuck in one image, our thinking automatically comes to a standstill?
Over the past seven days, the image of a woman, Himanshi Narwal, wearing bridal bangles and locked in silent despair as she sits beside her dead husband, Navy officer Vinay Narwal&mdash;murdered in a ghastly terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam&mdash;has shaken the country to its core. The picture does speak, indeed. But it does not always tell the entire story. The responsibility lies with the viewers, who have to identify those overlooked aspects within the image. Now, the way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe. Although the relation between what we see and what we know is never fully resolved. We only see what we look at. To look is an act of choice. As a result of this choice, what is seen is metaphorically brought within our reach.
Every image conveys a distinct viewpoint. How we want to see the different aspects of the image depends on our individual perspectives. Images are, to a vast degree, more precise and richer than literature, since no other text from the past can offer direct testimony about the world that surrounded other people at other times. The same goes with photographs. It becomes a medium through which the photographers want us to see their interpretation of the visible. That is where the requirement of our approach enters. When we 'see' a landscape, we subconsciously situate ourselves in it. It also opens the door to revisiting or reimagining other landscapes that we are not seeing. Similarly, as we continue to observe that particular photograph of Pahalgam, numerous instances begin to surface in our minds.
We remember witnessing three-year-old Aylan Kurdi lying dead on a Turkish beach, which shook the world. We remember the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine in Gaza&mdash;its loss, its terror, its devastation, and its people carrying the burden of never-ending misery. We remember Ukraine. Some might trace back to finding the memories of barbarism to Hitler's infamous Auschwitz. At this point, it suddenly becomes apparent that what lies before us is not merely a picture but a portrait. The truth of that portrait lies in the heart of eternity, which shows a disturbing illustration of human suffering that spans across different times and places.&nbsp;
We are affected by the charm of nature diversely and sometimes in the ways we least anticipate. It forms its thought in a realm detached from concrete reality. Without characters, without situations. The fascinating aspect of nature's magnificence is that it consistently allows you to immerse yourself deeply through your reasoning mind and creative imagination. Although I have never been to' Pahalgam' (which in Kashmiri signifies 'village of shepherds'), if I close my eyes and start dreaming about the place, I feel that I would never regret it if the rest of the world disappeared from my eyes forever! The same might be the case with almost every citizen of this country! No matter how many times we go there or even if we never do, a portion of the valley still remains within. Such is the influence Kashmir has on us.
Let us return to the image where it all began. The image that depicts the true form of the vast emptiness of life. Grief comes to us naturally. We grieve because we feel connected. We grieve because we have been loved. And because, in grieving, we find a way to honor what once made life whole. As we continue to look, it becomes clearer that the image is uncovering more than despair at the loss. It holds the raw truth of humanity, along with the profound portrayal of empathy and love.
This single photograph creates a faint, sacred space. That space is precisely unmarred by the violence, hatred, ethnic venom, and political cruelty of our mundane existence. And, in that very moment, it appears to embody the unfathomable depths of pain of the whole nation. We may have the luxury of distance from Kashmir. We may have the luxury of distance from this image as well. Yet, the greenness of that grief covers us fully. In that utter silence, we are all revealed.
Seven days have passed since the attack. More afternoons, more nights, more evenings&mdash; perhaps for another seven lives, this image may still be recognizable in our minds. We will remember, we will remember in countless repetitions, the sight that surfaced at nearly 2,800 meters above sea level, which silently reminded us once again how sorrow stands like a rock in the midst of various disputes. It reminded us how love keeps watch beside envy and hatred. All these emotions were packed in that single image (that effectively captured the wounded hearts of the valley of pristine whiteness). A single image that, despite being just a 'picture,' appeared to completely disregard the common saying that 'a picture speaks a thousand words' and, on that day, in fact 'could not speak.'

In a separate address in Deoria district, where he laid the foundation for various development projects, CM Yogi launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress over their reactions to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. He accused both parties of divisive politics and alleged they were indirectly supporting Pakistan by deflecting blame.
Condemning the statements made by SP leaders, Adityanath referenced their refusal to meet the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur resident killed in the attack. He said, &ldquo;You have seen that after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, it is hard to understand whether the statements are from an SP leader or a Pakistani spokesperson... When a reporter asked an SP leader why he hadn't gone to pay respects to the victim, Shubham Dwivedi, he said he wasn't a member of the party.&rdquo; He added, &ldquo;The country has come together to condemn the attack, but these SP leaders have made such remarks.&rdquo;
The Chief Minister also criticized another SP leader for stating, &ldquo;Hindu has killed Hindu,&rdquo; asserting that such comments effectively exonerated Pakistan. He accused the opposition of placing family interests and caste politics above national priorities. &ldquo;The previous government only brought diseases, unemployment by shutting down sugar mills, and riots. These leaders focused on their families. They talk about the development of the caste, but when in power, they only work for their family's benefit,&rdquo; he said.
CM Yogi further charged the Congress and SP with consistently adopting extreme appeasement politics, especially during moments that demand national unity. Calling for a collective stand against terrorism, he said, &ldquo;Whenever divisive politics occurs, the SP and Congress leaders cross all limits of appeasement, just like they are doing now. The whole nation should condemn this incident unanimously. Under the leadership of PM Modi, we must resolve to fight and end terrorism. We need to rise above political differences and think about the country and its people. But we can't expect such behavior from them.&rdquo;
These remarks come as national outrage continues over the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. The BJP has ramped up its criticism of the opposition over what it describes as irresponsible commentary on national security issues.

Uttar Pradesh has seen a historic drop in unemployment from 18 per cent in 2016 to 3 per cent now, the state government said in a statement.
It attributed the significant improved to the government's transparent recruitment processes and youth-focused policies.
"Owing to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's sustained efforts, unemployment in Uttar Pradesh has decreased sixfold since 2016. The state has not only created numerous government job opportunities, but also boosted private sector employment, fostering greater confidence and self-reliance among the youth," the statement said.
It added that over 8.5 lakh government jobs were provided via various commissions and recruitment boards, including appointments made in police, education, health and revenue departments.
The statement further said that the formation of an Outsourcing Service Corporation, aiming to protect the interests of outsourced employees, is underway.
Initiatives like start-up schemes, self-employment plans and the Mission Rozgar programme have created new employment avenues, marking significant long-term progress, it added.&nbsp;

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally monitored the process, following the central government&rsquo;s directive to revoke all visas issued to Pakistani nationals&mdash;except long-term and diplomatic visas&mdash;after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam.
Chief Minister Yogi convened a high-level meeting and directed officials to take swift action. Acting on his instructions, a police team was deployed to facilitate the return of Pakistani nationals.&nbsp;
As of now, only one Pakistani citizen remains in the state and is scheduled to be sent back on Wednesday. Authorities, including police and intelligence agencies, are closely monitoring the individual.
A dedicated campaign was launched across all 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh to ensure compliance with the repatriation orders. Meanwhile, the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) led to continued movement across the Indo-Pak border.
At the Attari border, a Pakistani citizen from Amarkot district, seen departing with his family, remarked, "I stayed here for four months with one of my relatives. We are returning since there are orders, and we don't have a long-term visa. What happened (in Pahalgam) is wrong, and we are paying for it (because of the terrorists). It will be good if both countries work together."
According to officials, 537 Pakistani nationals have exited India via the Attari border in the last three days, following the expiry of their short-term visas on Sunday.
Arun Pal, a protocol officer at the Attari Border, told ANI that 850 Indian nationals had also returned during this period. "Custom immigration counters opened at 10 am. Before the counters closed, 237 Pakistani Nationals returned to Pakistan from India, and 116 Indian Nationals returned from Pakistan. From April 24, 537 Pakistani Nationals have returned to Pakistan, and 850 Indian Nationals have returned to India. According to the latest information, Pakistani passport holders have until April 29 to cross the border. The same applies to Indian passport holders," he said.
Another Pakistani national at Attari shared their experience: "We came to visit Nagpur and since our visa expired, we are going back. Someone else is being punished for someone else's deeds. Whatever happened in Pahalgam was wrong and innocents should not have been tortured."
The Union government officially revoked all categories of visas for Pakistani citizens on April 27, excluding only long-term, diplomatic, and official visas.
This decisive move came in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people&mdash;mainly tourists and including a Nepalese national&mdash;lost their lives in a brutal afternoon assault at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam.

These four eminent individuals are Dr Shyam Bihari Agrawal, Hriday Narayan Dikshit, Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid, and Dr Satyapal Singh.

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting with relevant authorities to address Dehradun's traffic congestion. Key decisions include improving intersections, identifying new parking spaces, and establishing traffic awareness parks.

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting at the Secretariat with officials from the Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority and other relevant authorities to discuss the traffic system in Dehradun city.&nbsp;
The meeting focused on addressing the city's traffic congestion issues. According to a release on Monday, the Chief Secretary received updates on decisions made in previous meetings and emphasized the need to swiftly implement the action plan prepared to tackle traffic problems.
The Chief Secretary directed the Secretary of the Public Works Department to take immediate action and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for improving 10 key intersections that have been identified as major traffic congestion points.&nbsp;
He also instructed the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun to ensure strict adherence to traffic rules, highlighting the importance of running continuous awareness campaigns.
In addition to this, Bardhan emphasized the need for identifying new parking spaces within the city to alleviate congestion. He suggested communicating with school management and parents to consider adjustments to school opening and closing times to reduce traffic during peak hours.
Furthermore, Bardhan directed the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to expedite the process of relocating the Aadhat Bazaar, ensuring that plots are allotted to traders soon. He set a deadline for the completion of work related to the shift, urging strict adherence to the schedule. The Chief Secretary also instructed a survey of parking spaces in commercial complexes and shopping malls, with strict action to be taken against those not utilizing their designated parking areas.
As per the release, Bardhan stressed the importance of setting up traffic parks to raise awareness about traffic rules among citizens and future generations. He further directed concerned departments to remove encroachments from footpaths and relocate utilities to ensure smooth traffic flow. Bardhan also pointed out the issue of vehicles being parked along the widened roads, which is recreating previous congestion issues, and called for strict action against improper parking.

India's third moon mission Chandrayaan 3 will attempt the technically challenging soft landing on lunar surface on August 23, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said on Friday.
Addressing reporters after the successful launch of the estimated Rs 600 crore mission, Somanath said the craft's infusion into the lunar orbit has been planned from August 1.
The soft landing has been planned at 5.47 pm on August 23, more than a month after Chandrayaan 3 took off from the spaceport piggybacking on the heavylift LVM3-M4 rocket, he added.&nbsp;

The Odisha government has raised the minimum daily wages of workers by Rs 10, effective from April 1, an official said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved a proposal for the daily wage hike on Tuesday, he said, adding that the decision will benefit lakhs of workers.
The minimum daily wage for unskilled workers has been increased from Rs 452 to Rs 462, and from Rs 502 to Rs 512 for semi-skilled workers. Skilled workers will get Rs 562, instead of Rs 552, and the minimum wage for highly-skilled labourers will be Rs 612 from Rs 602 earlier.
The revision will be effective retrospectively from April 1, a CMO release said.

Seven people were killed when a rain-soaked wall collapsed at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Simhachalam here in the early hours of Wednesday, turning an annual ritual at the famous north Andhra shrine into a scene of both grandeur and grief.
The government said seven people died after the wall collapsed on the Rs 300 ticket queue line near the shopping complex on the ghat road from Simhagiri bus stand at around 3 am.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, among others, expressed grief over the incident. Both the Centre and the state government announced ex-gratia to the families of those killed in the incident.
State Home Minister V Anitha, who was present at the site, said preliminary reports indicated that the wall collapse at the temple was triggered by soil loosening due to heavy rains in the area. According to government sources, one person sustained injuries.
CM Naidu expressed deep sorrow and said he had spoken to the Collector and SP and directed for treatment be provided to the injured.
"Deeply saddened by the death of seven devotees at Simhachalam....my condolences to the families. I'm closely monitoring the situation and have ordered continuous review and support for victims," said Naidu in a post on 'X'.
The CM, who reviewed the situation via teleconference, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each to the injured, an official release said. An outsourcing job in temples under the Endowments Department will be provided to a family member of each victim.
Naidu also ordered an inquiry into the incident by a three-member committee.
The committee members are-- Irrigation chief engineer Venkateswar Rao, Municipal Administration principal secretary S Suresh Kumar and senior IPS officer Ake Ravi Krishna.
Naidu also reviewed the incident at his Undavalli residence with DGP Harish Kumar Gupta and other senior officials. They apprised the CM of the help being extended to the victims.
In her condolence message on "X', President Murmu said: "Saddened by the loss of lives including those of women in a wall collapse incident in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families." "May the injured recover soon," she said.
PM Modi mourned the victims. "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the collapse of a wall in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon." He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy also condoled the deaths.
Earlier, the annual Chandanotsavam at the temple witnessed both grandeur and grief, as thousands gathered to witness the Nijaroopa darshanam of the Lord, even as tragedy struck in the form of the wall collapse.
The shrine is dedicated to Lord Narasimha Swamy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The deity's idol is covered with sandalwood all through the year and revealed only once a year which is celebrated as Chandanotsavam.
Home Minister Anitha said heavy overnight rains and strong winds are suspected to have loosened the soil, causing the wall to give away.
Anitha, present at the temple during the incident, visited the site immediately. There was no negligence in the rescue response, she asserted.
An official from the temple said that the cause appears to be structural failure triggered by rains, but a detailed probe is underway.
Endowments Minister Ramanarayana Reddy called the tragedy unfortunate and announced stronger safety protocols.
Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state authorities pressed into service.
According to State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, eight devotees were trapped under the debris, and seven bodies--three women and four men were extricated during the rescue operation.
Former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over the incident and urged for best medical support to the injured and compensation to the victims' families.
According to a YSRCP statement, Reddy will visit Visakhapatnam later on Wednesday to meet with the families of the deceased.
Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan expressed sorrow over the death of the devotees, adding that the disaster striking during Chandanaostavam is unfortunate.
Earlier this year, six devotees waiting to collect tokens for Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple on Tirumala Hills in Tirupati were killed in a stampede.

The nephew, Mehrban, and his associate Umar, both in their early 20s, have been arrested following a brief encounter with the police.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Vajpayee said the bullet-riddled body of 35-year-old Farooq, a resident of Dholkiyan in Kiratpur, was recovered on Monday from a forested area near Rampur Asha village.
Preliminary investigation revealed that two men had brought him there on a motorcycle and gunned him down before fleeing.
Following a complaint by the victim's brother, Naeem, a named FIR was registered against Mehrban and Umar. Acting on a tip-off, police attempted to stop the duo late Tuesday night near Aman Colony.
The two opened fire, prompting retaliatory action in which Mehrban was shot in the leg and apprehended along with Umar, he said.
Police recovered two country-made pistols, the motorcycle used in the crime, and the victim's mobile phone.
During questioning, Mehrban confessed to having a five-year-long relationship with his aunt Amreen.
When he found out about the affair, Farooq allegedly began abusing his wife. So they formed a plan to kill him, police said.
ASP Vajpayee added that further action, including interrogation of the victim's wife, is underway.

In preparation for the pilgrimage, Uttarakhand Director General of Police Deepam Seth on Tuesday said that all security and logistical arrangements were in place.
He informed that around 6,000 policemen along with 17 Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) companies would be deployed for smooth and safe conduct of the Yatra. Drone surveillance will also be used to monitor the pilgrim routes and ensure crowd control.
Meanwhile, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has intensified its preparations for the next phase of the pilgrimage.
The doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham are scheduled to open on May 2, followed by Shri Badrinath Dham on May 4. Shri Madmaheshwar temple, the second Kedar, will open on May 21, and Shri Tungnath, the third Kedar, will open on May 2.
Elsewhere in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, lakhs of devotees gathered in Vrindavan on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya for a rare glimpse of Lord Banke Bihari&rsquo;s feet &mdash; an annual event that draws pilgrims from far and wide.
Senior administrative and police officials, including DIG Shailesh Pandey, District Magistrate Chandraprakash, and SSP Shlok Kumar, reviewed crowd management and security measures in the temple area.
Akshaya Tritiya, a deeply revered day in Hindu and Jain traditions, symbolizes prosperity, fortune, and success. The day is widely celebrated through prayers, charitable acts, and spiritual activities.&nbsp;
Considered ideal for beginning new ventures or making investments, Akshaya Tritiya is associated with the belief that acts of goodness initiated today bring lasting blessings.&nbsp;
According to Hindu scriptures, this day also marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga and the conclusion of the Dwapar Yuga, and is said to be astrologically significant with both the sun and moon in their most auspicious alignment.

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday said the assault on Kashmiri shawl vendors in Uttarakhand's Mussoorie after police refused to guarantee their safety was very disturbing.
"The physical and verbal assault on Kashmiri shawl vendors in Mussoorie, who had to flee when police refused to guarantee their safety, is very disturbing. After large-scale detentions, demolition of homes, and crackdowns inside Kashmir, ordinary citizens, students, and small traders outside of J-K are being attacked and forced to return," the Mirwaiz said in a post on X.
He was referring to incidents of harassment of Kashmiris working in other states, including Uttarakhand, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack last week.
"Being themselves at the receiving end of all forms of violence and subsequent suffering for decades, Kashmiris' condemnation, empathy, and grief for the victims of the Pahalgam bloodbath is straight from the heart, yet they are being vilified and targeted," he said.
"I appeal to the people of India not to fall prey to hatred and media propaganda creating mistrust of Kashmiris and reciprocate in ensuring their safety, as they have always done in times of crisis towards all visitors and tourists," he added.
The Mirwaiz said the "collective punishment" being meted out to Kashmiris both inside and outside Jammu and Kashmir is "unjust and inhuman."
