Tragic Bus-Truck Collision Claims Five Lives in Jaunpur

Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh (PTI), Aug 13: In a tragic incident on Tuesday night, a roadways bus and a truck collided head-on, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including a minor girl, in Jaunpur. The crash left 15 others injured, according to the police.

The collision occurred around 10:30 PM near the Guraeni petrol pump in the Khetasarai police station area. The roadways bus, traveling from Jaunpur, and the truck, coming from Shahganj, struck each other, leading to the fatalities, Superintendent of Police Dr. Kaustubh reported.

A police investigation revealed that the accident was attributed to the negligence of the bus driver, who swerved to the right, causing the collision with the oncoming truck. Among those who died were a two-year-old girl, two women, and two men.

Identities of some victims have been ascertained. Devi Prasad, 32, and Ratan Lal, 60, along with Gehna Devi, 59, from Pawai in the Azamgarh district, perished in the crash. Efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining deceased.

Upon receiving news of the incident, police and local administrative officials quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to private and district hospitals. Of the injured, three are in critical condition. Two are receiving treatment at the district hospital, while one has been referred to a facility in Varanasi.

District Magistrate Dr. Dinesh Chandra, along with other officials, visited the district hospital to check on the injured and gather more information regarding the incident.
