BRS leader K Kavitha taken into ED's custody in Delhi liquor scam case

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday took custody of BRS leader K Kavitha in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case, hours after raiding one of her houses in Hyderabad.

According to reports, the Telangana leader is being flown to Delhi. Kavitha, daughter of Telangana's ex-CM Chandrashekhar Rao, had skipped several ED summons.

It is alleged that Kavitha was part of the ‘South group’ that paid Rs 100 crore in kickbacks to Aam Aadmi Party leaders in exchange for undue benefits under the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.

The timing of Kavitha's arrest coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's roadshow in the Hyderabad suburb of Malkajgiri on Friday.

In a video shared by PTI news agency, Kavitha's brother former Telangana minister KT Rama Rao was seen confronting the ED officials asking how they can arrest Kavitha without a transit warrant, especially after committing to the Supreme Court.

He warns that officials violating their undertaking will have legal repercussions.

"You (ED officials) have given an undertaking in the Supreme Court, and now you are violating it. You are in serious trouble," he said.

He then accused the officials of violating an undertaking the agency had given to the Supreme Court and says, "You are in serious trouble".

An ED official is heard telling him that legal remedies are available.
