Kolkata's Swasthya Bhavan Faces Repeated Bomb Threats

Kolkata, May 27 (PTI) — 'Swasthya Bhavan', the headquarters of the West Bengal health department, has once again been at the center of a security scare. On Tuesday, the authorities received an email threatening to blow up the building with bombs, just a day after another email of a similar nature was determined to be a hoax, police reported.

The police, responding swiftly to the threat, dispatched a large team of personnel to the Swasthya Bhavan located in Sector V of the Salt Lake area. The team included bomb disposal experts and dog squads to conduct a thorough search of the premises, according to an officer from the Electronic Complex Police Station.

"We are conducting an extensive search at the Swasthya Bhavan. We are also trying to identify those behind this. The source of the mail is being tracked," the officer stated.

Details of the threatening mail included a claim that IEDs had been planted inside the building, with a warning that they would detonate within 30 minutes post 5 PM.

On Monday, the health authorities had received a similar threatening email, which was subsequently declared a hoax.
