BNCMC Intensifies Crackdown on Fraudulent Doctors in Thane

Thane, Sep 30 (PTI) — The Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) in Maharashtra's Thane district has ramped up its operations against fraudulent medical practitioners, establishing a dedicated committee to address public grievances, an official stated on Tuesday.

The BNCMC has advised residents to trust only those health facilities that have government recognition.

Dr. Sandeep Gadekar, the medical health officer of BNCMC, mentioned, "Currently, one Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) dispensary and 19 urban health centres are operational under the civic medical health department. These centres are equipped to conduct outpatient examinations and provide treatments, ensuring that healthcare remains accessible to the citizens."

According to Gadekar, a release noted that the government had sanctioned 39 urban health and wellness centres (UHWC) under the National Urban Health Mission. Out of these, 19 are already functioning in Bhiwandi.

A review committee has been set up by the civic body to tackle the issue of bogus doctors.

"In accordance with government guidelines, a committee at the municipal level has been formed. It's the responsibility of medical officers from urban health centres to identify fraudulent doctors and address any complaints received," he added.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, action has been taken against 74 fraudulent practitioners, he revealed.

"With continuous cooperation from the police, we are enforcing strict measures to protect the community from unlicensed and unqualified practitioners," Gadekar emphasized.
