BJP expels veteran Karnataka leader Eshwarappa for 6 years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled veteran Karnataka leader and former deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa from the party for six years for ‘embarrassing' the party.

Eshwarappa is contesting from the Shivamogga constituency as an Independent candidate, scorned by the BJP's refusal to field his son Kanthesh in the Lok Sabha elections.

During the Karnataka Assembly elections last year, Eshwarappa allegedly agreed to step aside after the party promised to give his son a Lok Sabha ticket. Eshwarappa wanted Kanthesh to be fielded from Haveri.

Former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai is contesting from the seat instead.

Eshwarappa will now fight as an independent candidate against former CM BS Yediyurappa’s son and incumbent Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra.
