BJP Accuses AAP of Involvement in Alleged Medical Scam After ED Raids

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) – On Tuesday, the BJP alleged that the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) raids targeting Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP Delhi unit chief and former health minister, have unveiled a "medical scam" purportedly carried out during the previous administration led by Arvind Kejriwal.

According to Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, the AAP government was implicated in this "scam," involving hospital construction and the procurement of medicines and equipment. A probe into alleged irregularities in medicine purchases is currently underway by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). He emphasized this in a video statement.

The ED's raids, involving searches at Bharadwaj's premises and those of certain private contractors, are part of a money laundering investigation linked to alleged fraudulent activities in health infrastructure projects under the former AAP government, as per official sources. A total of 13 locations across the National Capital Region are under scrutiny under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

"We have previously highlighted that the former AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal exploited Delhi through such scams. Now, the party is attempting to mislead people in other states," Sachdeva expressed.

Delhi BJP MLA Harish Khurana leveled accusations against the AAP administration, claiming they sanctioned payments to contractors even when no tangible work was observed regarding hospital construction. This was raised following the ED raids centering on Bharadwaj, 45, originating from an FIR lodged by Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in June.

The ACB has filed charges against Bharadwaj, fellow AAP colleague and former health minister Satyendar Jain, several private contractors, and unnamed government officials concerning alleged corrupt practices in health infrastructure projects carried out by the previous AAP government. In response, AAP asserted on Tuesday that the raids against Bharadwaj were aimed at diverting attention from the debate surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree, labeling the accusations against their leader as baseless.
