BJP Forms Assam Core Committee Ahead of Amit Shah's Visit

Guwahati, August 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled an 18-member core committee for its Assam unit in anticipation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's upcoming two-day visit to the state.

Shah's visit will include a crucial meeting on Thursday night with this newly established core committee to discuss preparation strategies and planning for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections.

Dilip Saikia, the state BJP chief, confirmed that the new core committee received approval from the national president of the party, JP Nadda.

Key figures in the committee include Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, and the party's national secretary Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.

Also, part of this strategic body are state ministers Ashok Singhal, Ranoj Pegu, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, and former state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita.

The committee comprises three state vice presidents: Ashok Bhattarai, Rekharani Das Boro, and Moon Swarnakar, along with five general secretaries - GR Ravindra Raju, Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, Pallab Lochan Das, Rituparna Baruah, and Anup Barman. Former MP Rajdeep Roy is also included.

Special invitees feature prominently as well and include state BJP in-charge Harish Dwivedi, the party's Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra, and co-coordinator V Muralidharan.

This committee is tasked primarily with devising strategies, ensuring seamless coordination across the state, and energizing grassroots workers to fortify the party's foundation ahead of a bid for a third consecutive term in office in the next year's assembly elections.
