Punjab Police have arrested a man who was allegedly part of the private security setup of pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh, officials said on Thursday.
Tejinder Singh Gill, a resident of Mangewal village in the Khanna area of Ludhiana district, was deputed in the security of Amritpal Singh, who is on the run since a police crackdown on his outfit 'Waris Punjab De' began on Saturday, said Khanna Deputy Superintendent of Police (Payal) Harsimrat Singh.
Gill used to display weapons in pictures and videos on social media without having an arms licence. An FIR against him has been registered under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), the DSP added.
Officials said their investigation has revealed that Gill was also involved in the Ajnala incident and Ajnala police will separately take action against him.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday launched an attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his 'truth is my God' tweet, following the verdict passed by the Surat district court against him in a criminal defamation case filed over his alleged 'Modi' surname remark.&nbsp;
Speaking to reporters in the national capital, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "does believing in truth and non-violence mean humiliating people?"
He further said that as per Indian Law if an individual or an organisation has been defamed with scandalous comments, or defamatory remarks then they have a right to seek redressal. But Congress wants complete freedom for Rahul Gandhi to hurl abuses.&nbsp;

Gandhi's sentence has however been suspended for 30 days to enable him to file an appeal against the verdict.

A Surat court has sentenced the Wayanad MP to prison for 2 years and according to the Representation of the People Act, a person sentenced to imprisonment of two years or more shall be disqualified "from the date of such conviction" and remain disqualified for another six years after serving time.&nbsp;

Amritpal case: curbs on internet services extended in Punjab's Tarn Taran, Ferozepur

According to an order, "the curbs on mobile internet services have been extended in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts in the interest of public safety, to prevent any incitement to violence and to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order"

The Punjab government Thursday extended the suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts till Friday noon while lifting the curbs in Moga, Sangrur, Ajnala sub-division in Amritsar and a few areas in Mohali.
Mobile internet services in the rest of Punjab resumed on March 21.
According to an order issued on Thursday by the state home affairs department and justice, the curbs on mobile internet services have been extended in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts "in the interest of public safety, to prevent any incitement to violence and to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order". "It is directed that all mobile internet services, all SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice calls, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall continue to remain suspended from March 23 (1200 hours) to March 24 (1200 hours) only in the districts Tarn Taran and Ferozepur in continuation of this office order number 1821 dated March 21," it said.
Broadband services were not suspended so that banking facilities, hospital services and other essential services are not disrupted, said the order.
The Punjab authorities last week suspended Internet and SMS services in the state following the police crackdown against elements of 'Waris Punjab De,' headed by radical preacher Amritpal Singh. The elusive preacher, however, gave the police a slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in the Jalandhar district.
With the Khalistani leader continuing to remain untraceable, police have said that efforts were on to nab the fugitive.

With a capacity of 156 tourists, the train has a mini library, fine dining facility restaurant and other modern amenities including sensor based washroom, shower cubicles in coaches. The inside view of the lavish train which has AC-1 and AC-2 accomodations will certainly give you 5-star hotel feels.
The train fare ranges from ₹ 1,06,990 per person in AC 2-tier, ₹ 1,31,990 per person in AC-1 cabins, and ₹ 1,49,290 per person in an AC-1 coupe which includes hotel stays, train journeys, sight seeing, travel insurance, meals, NDTV reported.

India logged 1,300 new coronavirus cases, the highest in 140 days, while the active cases have increased to 7,605, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The death toll has increased to 5,30,816 with three deaths. One death each has been reported by Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The daily positivity was recorded at 1.46 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 1.08 per cent.
The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,99, 418).
The active cases now comprises 0.02 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.79 per cent, the ministry said.
A total 92.06 crore tests for detection of Covid has been conducted so far with 89,078 tests being conducted in the last 24 hours.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,60,997, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent. &nbsp;According to the ministry's website, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

YouTuber Manish Kashyap wanted by the Bihar Police for allegedly sharing fake videos of 'attacks on migrant workers in Tamil Nadu', surrendered before the police 'fearing arrest and attachment of his belongings' in West Champaran district on Saturday, PTI reported.
According to a statement issued by the Economic Offences Unit of Bihar Police, three cases were registered against Kashyap on the charges of 'indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media'.
The EOU has also frozen four bank accounts belonging to Kashyap.

The BJP on Thursday named four new state presidents, including Lok Sabha MP C P Joshi in Rajasthan and OBC leader and MLC Samrat Choudhary in Bihar, as the party moves to tone up its organisational machinery with an eye on consolidating its support base in the run up to crucial state and national polls.
BJP president J P Nadda also appointed Manmohan Samal, a former state minister, as the head of the party's Odisha unit, while Delhi working president Virendra Sachdeva was elevated as its chief.
Choudhary (54), whose standing within the BJP has steadily risen after joining the party in 2018, is the leader of the party in the Bihar legislative council and comes from the politically important Kushwaha community. He replaces Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Jaiswal at the helm of the Bihar BJP. Joshi (47) will replace Satish Poonia, an MLA from Jaipur's Amber constituency, and the appointment comes close on the heels of veteran Rajasthan BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria being eased out of active politics following his appointment as Assam governor.
A Brahmin face, Joshi is a second time MP from Chittorgarh Lok Sabha seat.

Two children and an adult were crushed to death when a three-storeyed residential building collapsed in the small hours of Thursday in Visakhapatnam, a police official said.

&ldquo;Suddenly at 1.30 in the morning, the whole structure collapsed,&rdquo; Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumit Sunil Garud said, sharing the preliminary information said. "Police and fire services responded immediately and with quick action we could rescue five of them." Had the police and fire services not attended to the emergency immediately, Garud said, more occupants of the building would have died.
The IPS officer, who spent two hours at the accident site, oversaw the rescue of a woman. Five rescued tenants are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Meanwhile, police booked a case under Section 174 of CrPC (police must enquire and report on the circumstances of death) and are in the process of taking an expert opinion to ascertain the cause of the old building&rsquo;s collapse.
According to Garud, another building is also being constructed beside the collapsed one.
