Bihar politics: Nitish Kumar wins floor test amid walk out by BJP

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's 'Mahagathbandhan' government has emerged victorious in the floor test, therefore proving JDU-led alliance's majority in the state Assembly. The Mahagathbandhan comprising JDU-RJD-Congress will continue to stay in power.

The floor test witnessed stormy scenes with BJP MLAs staging a walk out. They accused JDU & RJD of inconsistency in Mahagathbandhan-1. RJD's Tejashwi Yadav hit back saying BJP puts ahead its three 'jamai', CBI, ED and IT whenever in lose-lose situation.

Hours before the floor test, the CBI raided premises of several RJD leaders in connection with a land-for-jobs scam which was part of party chief Lalu Yadav's tenure as Union Railway Minister in the UPA-1 government

Kumar ended his alliance with the BJP earlier this month and formed a government with the support of RJD, Congress and Independent MLAs.

Earlier in the day, Assembly Speaker and BJP MLA Vijay Kumar Sinha stepped down from his post owing to the majority. A no confidence-motion was moved against him soon after Mahagathbandhan came to fruition.

As for the new Speaker, the election will be held on August 26. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hajari will run the Assembly till the election of the new speaker
