Bihar govt releases caste survey results: OBCs, EBCs comprise 63%

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar released findings of its much-awaited caste survey on October 2.

The results revealed that people belonging to extremely backward classes or EBCs and other backward classes or OBCs constitute a whopping 63% of the state’s total population.

EBCs comprise 36.01% of the population, while the OBCs account for 27.12%. Of the OBC, Yadavs constitute 14.26%, while Kushwaha and Kurmi form 4.27% and 2.87% of the population surveyed.

The population of the general category stands at 15.52%. The survey further showed that the Scheduled caste comprises 19.65% and the Scheduled Tribe makes up for 1.68% of the population.

According to the data released by Development Commissioner Vivek Singh, the state’s total population stood at a little over 13.07 crore.
