Bengaluru bandh over Cauvery: schools and college shut, security tightened

All schools and colleges are closed in Bengaluru after multiple organisations called for a 'bandh' over the Cauvery water dispute.

The Bengaluru bandh will be observed till 6 pm as various organisations, including farmers and pro-Kannada groups, are protesting against the release of Cauvery River water to Tamil Nadu.

Fewer than usual passengers were seen at Majestic Bus Station, while heavy security has been deployed across the city. The BJP has extended support to the bandh.

Karnataka BJP leader CT Ravi said that his party will support the Bengaluru Bandh to protest against the release of Cauvery water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

"Today our state party chief and BS Yediyurappa declared support. We will support it and with it, we'll also protest in front of the Gandhi statue," CT Ravi said.
