'Be transparent, fair in functioning, not vindictive': Supreme Court reprimands ED

The Supreme Court reprimanded the Enforcement Directorate while hearing a plea challenging the arrest of directors of real estate group M3M.

The apex court noted that the directors were summoned for questioning in an alleged money laundering case and arrested in another case filed by the ED on the same day.

The bench said the case speaks volumes about the ED and reflects poorly on their style of functioning. It added that the ED has to be transparent and conform to pristine standards of fairness and not be vindictive.

The bench said, “It speaks volumes about the ED and reflects poorly on their style of functioning, especially since the agency is charged with preserving the financial security of the country.”

It added, “The ED has to be transparent, above board and conform to pristine standards of fairness and probity and not be vindictive in its stand.”
