Ban on non-essential construction after Delhi air deteriorates to 'severe'

In the wake of deteriorating air quality in Delhi, the commission for air quality management has put a ban on non-essential construction and demolition activities in the national capital.

The pollution control body said the ban will be effective immediately given the severe air quality being reported in Delhi.

The decision has been taken after Centre's air quality committee observed that Delhi's AQI deteriorated to 'severe' category as it directed the government to impose pollution control measures under Stage 3 of the Graded Action Plan.

The panel also pointed that the air quality in Delhi and adjoining areas will likely worsen, a Times of India report said.
