Assam Rifles jawan shoots 6 colleagues, kills self in Manipur

An Assam Rifles jawan reportedly opened fire at his colleagues before shooting himself dead in Manipur on January 24.

Six jawans were injured in the incident that took place in an Assam Rifles battalion in South Manipur near the Indo-Myanmar. They were evacuated to a military hospital and are said to be stable.

The Assam Rifles said that the incident was not related to the ongoing ethnic clashes in the state. A spokesperson said that all the injured are non-Manipuri.

“This unfortunate incident should not be correlated with the ongoing ethnic conflict, given the fact that none of the injured are from Manipur. Investigation into the incident has been ordered to ascertain the facts," the Manipur Police said on X.
