Assam CM Launches Portal for Arms License Applications

Guwahati, Aug 14 (PTI) - Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a digital portal on Thursday designed for indigenous people residing in "sensitive areas" to apply for arms licenses. The initiative aims to empower responsible citizens to support the government in maintaining peace and ensuring law and order in the state, according to Sarma. The licenses will be issued following a thorough scrutiny and a multi-layered process. Sarma emphasized that only individuals who have no criminal history and are mentally stable will be eligible to receive these licenses. Applicants must also undergo arms training and demonstrate their vulnerability to justify the need for a license. Sarma clarified that while the licenses will be provided under the Indian Arms Act, the state government will not supply the arms themselves.
