Assam Cabinet Sanctions Key Power and Healthcare Initiatives

Guwahati, Aug 14 (PTI) - The Assam Cabinet has granted post-facto approval for the procurement of 500 megawatts of power from the Union coal ministry, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.

Power will be acquired at a rate of Rs 5.79 per unit to ensure affordable electricity for citizens, stated the chief minister on platform X following a cabinet meeting held late Wednesday.

The cabinet has also sanctioned a 1,500 megawatt pumped storage project in Karbi Anglong, aimed at advancing the state's clean energy objectives.

To guarantee quality healthcare for all, the council of ministers approved a financial sanction of the remaining Rs 325 crore for the 'Mukhya Mantri Ayushman Asom Yojana' for the financial year 2025-26. This move is to ensure the uninterrupted provision of cashless medical treatment to beneficiaries, announced Sarma.

The cabinet has endorsed amendments to the Assam Unified Building Construction (Regulation) Byelaws, 2022. These changes are intended to promote industrial development and encourage the construction of green buildings, thereby enhancing the ease of doing business.

This amendment will enable smaller plots to benefit from the 'transit-oriented development' (TOD) policy in urban planning, facilitating housing solutions for economically weaker sections of society, he mentioned.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the reclassification of eight proposals related to the Mission Basundhara scheme in Dhubri and Biswanath districts, aimed at regulating and facilitating non-agricultural transactions.
