Arunachal Pradesh Doubles NIMAS Sponsorship for Youth Adventure Training

Itanagar, Nov 3 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced on Monday that the state government plans to double the number of young people it sponsors for training at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in Dirang.

Chief Minister Khandu revealed that the government-supported trainee count will rise from 200 to 400 annually. This move aims to provide more youths with access to professional adventure education and structured skill development.

"Good news for adventure enthusiasts! We have decided to increase the number of youths sponsored by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for training at NIMAS, Dirang, from 200 to 400 annually," Khandu stated in a post on X.

During a visit on Sunday to NIMAS, Khandu reviewed the institute’s infrastructure and development initiatives alongside Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, the director and a renowned mountaineer.

"During my visit to NIMAS, India’s only institute offering training across all three domains of adventure sports, I reviewed campus facilities and ongoing development," Khandu mentioned in his post.

Chief Minister Khandu also highlighted that the expanded sponsorship scheme aims to nurture a new generation of adventure professionals from Arunachal Pradesh.

"This expansion will inspire young Arunachali to embrace the spirit of adventure, discipline, and leadership," he added.

Situated in Dirang, West Kameng district, NIMAS stands as India’s leading adventure sports institution. It is the only institute in the country that provides certified training across the mountaineering, aero-adventure, and aqua-adventure domains.

Established under the Ministry of Defence, the institute has played a vital role in promoting adventure tourism, national expeditions, high-altitude training, and skill development for youth and adventure enthusiasts across India.
