Article 370: Supreme Court asks govt lawyers to look into suspension of J&K lecturer

The Supreme Court on August 28 asked the Attorney General and Solicitor General to look into the suspension of Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, a political science lecturer at a government school in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar.

Bhat was reportedly suspended soon after appearing before the Supreme Court to argue for petitioners in the Article 370 case. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal raised the issue before a 5-judge bench of the top court, saying that this is not how democracy should function.

In response, the government's lawyers said that what's reported in newspapers may not be the whole truth and that there are other issues also.

The court asked the AG to look into what had happened and raised a red flag regarding the suspension order's timing after the Article 370 hearing.
