Andhra Pradesh Faces 'Undeclared Emergency' Allegations

YSRCP leader Appalaraju accuses Andhra CM Naidu of authoritarian practices akin to an 'undeclared Emergency,' with claims of police misuse, political intimidation, and industrial sabotage.

Andhra Pradesh Faces 'Undeclared Emergency' Allegations

Amaravati, June 26 (PTI) - Former Minister and YSRCP leader S Appalaraju has alleged that Andhra Pradesh is experiencing an "undeclared Emergency" under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

During a press conference on Thursday, Appalaraju accused Naidu of imposing repression through "police excesses, fabricated cases, and political intimidation." He claimed that Naidu, who formerly supported the Emergency as a Congress leader, is now orchestrating a similar authoritarian regime in the state.

Appalaraju went on to allege the misuse of police force, citing examples of torture and illegal cases against YSRCP leaders and ordinary citizens. He blamed IT Minister Nara Lokesh for fostering a climate of fear.

The YSRCP leader also accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of "industrial sabotage," citing attacks on UltraTech and Bhavya Cements, along with alleged extortion activities in breweries, which he claimed forced investors like the Jindal group to withdraw from the region.

He further accused the administration of vandalism at Krishnapatnam Port, describing these actions as indicative of Naidu's anti-industry policies. Appalaraju warned that public discontent is mounting, referencing internal government surveys and asserting that "even intellectuals are unwilling to support this administration's authoritarian actions."

"History shows dictators fall. This government must take lessons before it's too late," Appalaraju added.

At the time of reporting, there was no immediate reaction from the TDP.
