Amid spats, Kerala govt plans to replace Guv as varsities' Chancellor; Shashi Tharoor says, 'unfortunate'

Amid the going spat, the Kerala government has decided to make a big move against the state governor Arif Mohammed Khan.

LDF government plans to bring an ordinance intending to replace the Governor with expert academicians as Chancellor of universities in the state.

A PTI report, quoting sources close to CMO office said, the decision to issue the ordinance was taken in a cabinet meeting.

Calling the tussle unfortunate Thiruvananthpuram MP Shashi Tharoor said both parties must resolve the issue.

Notably, the state government and the Governor has been at the loggerheads over functioning of universities, including appointment of Vice Chancellors, in the state.

On queries whether Governor Arif Mohammed Khan would sign the ordinance, the Kerala's Higher Education minister R Bindu said she hopes that he would act according to his Constitutional duties.
