Ameet Satam Appointed President of Mumbai BJP Ahead of Key BMC Elections

Ameet Satam becomes president of Mumbai BJP, taking over as elections approach. His leadership is expected to boost BJP's success in the upcoming BMC polls.

Ameet Satam Appointed President of Mumbai BJP Ahead of Key BMC Elections

Mumbai, Aug 25 (PTI) Mumbai's political landscape has shifted as three-term MLA Ameet Satam steps into the role of president for the Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Monday.

The transition occurs as anticipation builds for the upcoming elections for the affluent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which are expected later this year.

Chief Minister Fadnavis conveyed optimism that Satam's leadership will propel the BJP to regain control over the BMC.

Satam, currently 49, has consistently represented the Andheri West assembly constituency in Mumbai for three terms.

Speaking to the press at the state BJP headquarters, Fadnavis underscored the BJP's considerable success in the Maharashtra assembly elections last year and the party's affirmation of its influence in Mumbai under the outgoing city unit chief, Ashish Shelar.

“With Shelar now assuming ministerial duties in the cabinet, appointing a new president for Mumbai’s unit became imperative.

After extensive discussions spearheaded by state BJP president Ravindra Chavan and senior leaders, Ameet Satam was selected for the position,” he explained.

CM Fadnavis remarked on Satam’s longstanding association with the BJP and his active involvement in various critical roles over time.

“Recognized both as an educated and strong-willed legislator, Satam possesses an acute understanding of Mumbai's urgent issues and has exhibited the capabilities needed to address them,” the senior BJP leader remarked.

“I am confident that his leadership will sustain the BJP's triumphant streak in the forthcoming civic elections, and we will secure a victory in the BMC,” Fadnavis added.

Furthermore, the CM expressed that, with backing from veteran leaders across Mumbai and Maharashtra, the BJP stands poised to achieve unprecedented success in the city's municipal elections.
