AJP Alleges Communal Political Strategy in Madani's Assam Visit

AJP President Lurinjyoti Gogoi claimed Mahmood Madani's Assam visit aims to provoke communal tensions, accusing CM Sarma of exploiting the situation. Madani urged adherence to legal norms in Goalpara, while Sarma promised action if laws are flouted.

AJP Alleges Communal Political Strategy in Madani's Assam Visit

Dibrugarh (Assam), Sep 3 (PTI) - Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) President Lurinjyoti Gogoi has accused Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind chief Mahmood A Madani's visit to Assam of being part of a political strategy aimed at stirring communal tensions.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Gogoi charged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with intending to exploit the situation for personal gain and implored Assam's populace to remain alert to attempts by either Hindu or Muslim extremist groups to disrupt the state's peaceful coexistence.

Gogoi expressed that anxiety has been pervasive among the public ever since news broke about Madani’s trip to Assam.

He also commented on the state's history of experiencing communal disturbances following alleged "provocative comments from Delhi-based religious figures."

"When previous attempts didn't succeed, a new tactic was employed to bring Madani to Assam," Gogoi asserted, adding that Madani also engaged in talks with AIUDF representatives.

The opposition leader further claimed that the plan entailed Madani visiting Goalpara via West Bengal, returning through Guwahati airport to drop a contentious statement at a press conference before heading back to Delhi, allowing Sarma to reap political benefits.

"Madani is aware that any incendiary remarks could result in legal actions across Assam. While the current administration might protect him, a future one might not. Whether due to fear or a change in approach, he refrained from making any provocative statements this time, sparing Assam," Gogoi noted.

Following his visit to eviction-affected areas in Goalpara, Madani addressed the media on Tuesday, urging the government to adhere to Supreme Court regulations during eviction operations.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded by threatening Madani with arrest if he "oversteps his bounds."
