Minister Confirms Domestic Analysis of Air India Crash Black Box

Pune, Jun 24 (PTI) — Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced on Tuesday that the black box from the Air India crash in Ahmedabad earlier this month is currently being analyzed by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

He dispelled rumors that the device would be sent abroad for examination.

The London-bound Air India flight tragically collided with a hostel complex in Ahmedabad shortly after its departure from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, resulting in the loss of 270 lives, including 241 passengers.

Remarkably, one passenger survived.

The black box of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was recovered on June 13.

This crucial device records vital flight information, aiding in accident investigations.

Reports had suggested that the black box might be sent overseas for a forensic probe, but Minister Naidu refuted these claims, stating, "It is all speculation. The black box is very much in India and is currently being investigated by the AAIB."

When asked about the timeline for the decoding of the black box data, Naidu described it as a "very technical matter" and urged patience to allow the AAIB to complete its thorough investigation.

Naidu was addressing the media at the Helicopters & Small Aircraft Summit 2025, which is organized by FICCI in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Post-incident, the government has constituted a high-level panel to investigate the cause of the Ahmedabad plane crash, confirming that the investigative process is progressing smoothly.

Naidu had earlier remarked that decoding the black box would provide critical insights into the circumstances leading to the crash.
