Adani row: after Zambia, Bhutan delegation witnesses chaos in Indian Parliament

Within minutes of the Speaker welcoming the guests, protests by the Opposition over the Adani-Hindebury controversy erupted in the well of the House.

After a parliamentary delegation from Zambia watched protests play out in Lok Sabha last week, a visiting group from Bhutan witnessed fresh chaos on 6 February 2023.

Om Birla began the Lok Sabha session by welcoming the delegation to India and extended his warm wishes. Referring to the group as 'athithi' (guests), he said that the delegation along with their National Assembly Speaker Wangchuk Namgyel came to India on 5 February 2023.

The parliamentary delegation is expected to tour Mumbai and Aurangabad in Maharashtra apart from its visit to India's national capital. The visitors are expected to leave for Bhutan on 11 February 2023, Birla said. He ended his welcome address by sending good wishes to the entire country of Bhutan and its 'friendly citizens'.

Within minutes of the Speaker's welcome to the guests, protests erupted in the well of the House. Members of the Opposition chanted, "Adani sarkar shame, shame. Adani sarkar down, down," in a reference to the Adani-Hindenburg row.

Six minutes after convening, Birla adjourned the session.
