6 days & social media outrage later, case against priest for threatening Muslim women

It took the police in Uttar Pradesh six days and outrage on social media to file a case against a local priest for allegedly threatening to kidnap and rape Muslim women.

Videos doing rounds online show a man dressed in saffron robe sitting in a car and addressing a crowd in UP's Khairabad on April 2. The incident sparked outrage on social media with netizens asking why no action had been taken against man for threatening to kidnap and rape women.

Journalist Mohammad Zubair posted one of the videos on Twitter and said that the priest had made a hate speech in present of the police.

In reply to his tweet, Sitapur Police said that a senior officer is investigating the matter and that action will be taken on the basis of facts.

The National Commission for Women has also condemned the incident and sought the priest's arrest. The panel also written a letter to the DGP of UP saying that police should not be a mute spectator in such incidents and appropriate measures must be taken by them to curb people from using such outrageous language for women.
