3 Hindu dancers withdraw from event at temple which barred 'non-Hindus' performers

Three Hindu dancers pulled out of upcoming event at the Koodalmanikyam Temple in Thrissur after the temple authorities denied permission to perform to two non-Hindu dancers.

Dancers VP Mansiya and Soumya Sukumaran were denied the permission to perform last week.

In an act of defiance, dancers Devika Sajeevan, Anju Aravind and Karthik Manikandan said they would not be performing at the upcoming event as art forms transcend religious boundaries.

Sanjeevan, Aravind and Manikandan took to social media to express their solidarity with Mansiya and Sukmaran and rejected the invite to perform.

The temple’s decision to bar two dancers kicked off a controversy and later the government advised the temple board to talk to all concerned and arrive at a decision.
