Hyderabad, November 3 (PTI): A tragic accident occurred in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, resulting in at least 19 fatalities and injuries to four others. The mishap involved a head-on collision between a tipper lorry transporting gravel and a public transport bus. The impact caused the gravel to spill onto the bus. Among the 19 deceased were 10 women.

The unfortunate incident took place near Chevella this morning, involving a Telangana Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus en route from Tandur to Hyderabad. Tragically, the bus driver was also among those who died. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. In his message on X, he announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for the bereaved families and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the families during this challenging time. I sincerely hope for a speedy recovery of the injured. The Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will ensure compensation of Rs 2 lakhs to the victims' families and Rs 50,000 for the injured,” he stated.

According to the bus conductor, the bus was carrying 72 passengers at the time of the accident. After the gravel fell onto the bus, several passengers became trapped inside. Relief operations were promptly carried out using earthmovers, and passengers were rescued from the vehicle. A police official stated.

The Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, expressed deep anguish over the accident. An official release mentioned that he instructed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to expedite relief measures. Ministers were also directed to proceed to the accident site. Additionally, the CM emphasized the importance of quickly transporting the injured to Hyderabad for advanced medical treatment.
