Hazaribag Police Apprehends Six in 10 Lakh Extortion Case

Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Nov 12 (PTI): The Hazaribag Police on Wednesday apprehended six individuals allegedly linked to an extortion racket, a local police officer reported. The accused had reportedly sought a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from Ghulam Rabani, identified as a quack, on October 30. Rabani received the ransom demand via a phone call on his mobile, the officer stated.

Barhi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar Vimal remarked, "We have taken into custody six individuals involved in the extortion attempt for Rs 10 lakh targeting Rabani. These perpetrators also opened fire on a vehicle parked at Rabani's residence on November 6." A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Barkattha police station, following which an investigation was initiated, he added.

Authorities have confiscated a variety of items from the arrested men, including a country-made pistol, a motorcycle, eight cartridges, and six mobile phones. The suspects have admitted to their involvement in the crime.

The SDPO also revealed that the same mobile number was used in another extortion case in Tatijharia. A separate case was filed at the Tatijharia police station regarding this incident.

All the arrested individuals are residents of the Hazaribag district.
