UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared the end of the era of global warming, as scientists confirmed that July was heading to become the hottest month ever recorded.

"Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it's a terrifying reality. We are now entering the era of global boiling," Guterres stated, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate climate action.

July witnessed extreme heat, breaking temperature records worldwide, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the EU's Copernicus Earth observation program.

The surge in global temperatures is driven by the burning of fossil fuels, which contributes to the greenhouse effect, intensifying extreme weather events.

Guterres urged the international community to work together to limit global temperature rise to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, thereby avoiding the worst consequences of climate change.
