Vidyut Jammwal Cast in Hollywood's 'Street Fighter' Reboot

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI): Action star Vidyut Jammwal has officially been cast in the highly anticipated live-action reboot of "Street Fighter," produced by Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures.

The film, which is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026, will serve as Jammwal's Hollywood debut. He is well-known for leading action-packed films such as the "Commando" series, "Khuda Hafiz," and "Baadshaho."

The full cast of the film was announced on the movie's official Instagram handle by Paramount Pictures, in collaboration with Legendary Entertainment and Capcom, stating, "Secrets don’t last long in the arena—Street Fighter is now in production. In theaters October 16, 2026. Let the tournament begin!"

Jammwal will join a star-studded ensemble that includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Callina Liang, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and David Dastmalchian.

In the movie, Jammwal will portray Dhalsim, a yogi with fire-spitting abilities, known as a fundamentally peaceful man who fights to support his family. Koji will play Ryu, Centineo as Ken, Liang as Chun-Li, and Dastmalchian as M. Bison. Rhodes will take on the role of Guile, with Momoa as Blanka, Jackson as Balrog, Peck as Vega, Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.

The project is being helmed by filmmaker Kitao Sakurai, known for his work on films like "Bad Trip" and "Aardvark."

"Street Fighter" originated as an arcade game from the Japanese company Capcom in 1987 and reached iconic status with the release of "Street Fighter II" in 1991, which revolutionized the one-on-one fighting game genre. Players select a character, each with a unique fighting style, and engage in battles using punches, kicks, special moves, and combos.

The latest installment of the game, "Street Fighter 6," launched in June 2023 and was honored with the best fighting game award at the 2023 Game Awards.
