Los Angeles, July 15 (PTI) - Bollywood star Vidyut Jammwal, renowned for his role in the "Commando" series, has joined the cast of the upcoming live-action adaptation of "Street Fighter".

The entertainment news source Deadline reports that the 44-year-old will portray the character Dhalsim in the film.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, known for works like "Bad Trip" and "Aardvark", "Street Fighter" is inspired by the famed Capcom video games.

The movie's ensemble cast also features David Dastmalchian as a villain, alongside talent such as Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, and Andrew Schulz.

Since its inception in 1987, the "Street Fighter" video game series has captivated audiences with its intense one-on-one martial arts showdowns, centered around M. Bison's global fighting tournament, selling over 55 million units worldwide.

Jammwal was last seen in "Crack: Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa", a sports action film that includes stars like Amy Jackson, Arjun Rampal, and Nora Fatehi. Directed by Aditya Datt, this film debuted in theatres on February 23, 2024, telling the tale of a young man from Mumbai's slums whose life dramatically changes as he enters the extreme sports arena.
