Sonakshi Sinha Criticizes SC Directive on Delhi's Street Dogs

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha has expressed her dissatisfaction with a recent Supreme Court directive mandating the relocation of street dogs from the Delhi NCR area. She called the decision a "disappointment."

The 38-year-old actress took to Instagram to voice her concerns, accompanied by a caption stating, "Day by day we expose how soul-less we have become as a society. Every day is a disappointment."

In the message she shared, Sinha emphasized, "Street dogs are not a problem. They are victims of fear, hunger, disease, neglect, cruelty, and abandonment. They live without shelter, without vaccination, without sterilization, left behind to give birth on the streets, only to watch their puppies suffer the same fate." She further criticized the move, adding, "Sending them to overcrowded shelters where they will lose their freedom and identity is not animal welfare. Spaying and vaccinating street dogs is the real, humane solution."

Several celebrities have also voiced their concerns about the directive. Among them are Vir Das, Jahnvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Varun Grover. Additionally, John Abraham has penned a letter addressing both the Supreme Court and the Delhi Government on the matter.

In their ruling, Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan noted the "extremely grim" situation resulting from stray dog bites, which have led to cases of rabies, especially affecting children.

The court has instructed Delhi authorities to begin establishing shelters for approximately 5,000 street dogs within the next six to eight weeks.
